Will decreasing entrances and exits make schools safer?

For many years, school buildings have been designed to ensure safety, and have been built in accordance with emergency and fire requirements. School construction experts have warned against limiting entrances and exits, cautioning that doing so would not necessarily prevent targeted school violence and could actually create safety issues by crowding students near doors as they wait to get into or out of schools.

The danger of focusing on entrances and exits is that it may distract time and resources from strategies that have been proven to increase school safety, like building positive school climates and adopting behavior threat assessment systems.
